In the first poem, are you sad? I wonder because you mention a cemetery, and it feels a little lonely. The second one is very cute. It looks like the piece of art was designed just for the poem. On the top page, it looked like you had another poem, but I couldn't make it out very well. What I could see was such a good idea. Looks like making a poem is like picking words out of a basket and pinning them together.
Hi, This type of poem was from using a lesson called poetry basket. This is when you randomly pick 6 nouns, adjectives, adverbs and verbs. Then you form them into a poem. So my random noun was a cemetery. Along side of each of my poems are directions on how to do the poem. The second poem is my name written in cursive using carbon paper in between. I then used a cinquain style format for the poem. I loved doing both of them. My students also enjoy them too.
I really enjoyed the the contrast of these two poems. The first seemed rather deep, where the second one was more light hearted. I felt like the first one had more potential to be interpreted in a variety of ways, yet the second one came off as a bit more straight forward. I am curious about what your intention was with the first poem, verse others interpretations.
The first poem was words picked out of a basket randomly so there wasn't any choice of words. This lesson is called poetry basket. The second poem format was a cinquain style. I didn't have a reason to do them except that in my langauge arts class our professor had us make a whole poetry book so we had examples to show our students when did a unit in poetry. It was fun and I have done this same thing with my students.
I enjoyed reading some of the lines from your poetry pieces. I had a hard time making out a few of the words in both of the pictures. However, from what I could see your first was filled with great words. It flowed very well. As others mentioned, I wonder what your vision or inspiration was for this piece. The second piece was happy and carefree and I enjoyed the picture that you put with it. My question would be: does the second piece relate to you or to an experience you have had or was it purely whimsical?
The second one was per whimsical. I wrote my name in cursive which formed this alien creature. The format for the words had to be in the cinquain styele format. I love poetry and all the different things you can do. There is deep poetry to the easy three liners that make you laugh. I also found this to be a way for my students to write for me.
I love the idea of writing your name in cursive, and the poem that went along with it is really cute. I'm sure your students had a really good time with this activity. I am thinking that it may not have turned out so perfect if you hadn't used cursive. Students had to figure out that there is a very important purpose behind the things that you have them do!
